Child Cabled Square Hat with Pom Poms

Materials

G Hook

I Hook

1 Ball Worsted Weight Yarn (Paton's Cassic Wool)

Using G Hook:

Chain 6

Row 1: SC in second chain from hook, continue to end, chain 1 (5 SC)

Rows 2-69: BLO SC, continue to end, chain 1

Connect ends with SLST to form the band

Using I Hook:

Row 1: SC around top of band, end with SL to first SC, chain 2 (69 SC)

Row 2: DC in same stitch as chain 2, DC throughout, join with SLST to top of first DC, chain 2 (69 DC) (chain 2 does not count as DC)

Row 3: FPDC first 3 DC (again, do not count chain 2 from previous row), BPDC next DC, repeat to end, join with SLST to first FPDC

Row 4: FPDC around Second/Middle of the three FPDC from previous row, FPDC around Third FPDC from previous row, FPDC around First FPDC from previous row, BPDC around BPDC from previous row, continue pattern to end, chain 2

Row 5: FPDC around First FPDC from previous row, FPDC around Second FPDC from previous row, FPDC around Third FPDC from previous row, BPDC around BPDC from previous row, continue pattern to end, chain 2

Row 6: Repeat Row 5

Row 7: Repeat Row 4

Continue Pattern Rows: 4, 5, 5, 4 end pattern to desired height making sure to end with one round of Row 5.

  

Once desired height is reached (roughly 6.5” for 3-5 years – approximately 16 rows), turn hat inside out, closing stitches with a SLST. Cut yarn and weave in loose ends.

Follow pattern for Pom Poms and sew into both corners of the hat.
